Tottenham travelled to Swansea in the day's other game, a fixture Spurs have historically enjoyed in Premier League past. The north London club have won five of the previous six meetings, only dropping points in their first meeting back in December 2011.

Plus Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Leicester meet in the league for the first time in over ten years, and both teams are desperate to take the bragging rights.

The Tyne-Wear derby is one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in English football. While Newcastle have the better overall record in Premier League meetings, Sunderland have held the edge in recent encounters. The Black Cats are chasing a fourth consecutive victory in this fixture, and have won 3-0 on each of their last two trips to St James' Park. Mark Chapman presents highlights from the day's Premier League fixtures. Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, a fixture which proved crucial in last season's Premier League title race. Liverpool squandered a three-goal lead in the final 11 minutes last May as the match ended 3-3, leaving Brendan Rodgers' team just one point ahead of title rivals Manchester City, who went on to claim the crown by two points. The day's other game sees Hull host Tottenham. Spurs are unbeaten in their three previous visits to the KC Stadium and they have only lost once to the Tigers in the Premier League. In this fixture last season, Hull ended a run of four consecutive league defeats by earning a 1-1 draw.

In the day's other game, West Ham are aiming to preserve their record of five successive home victories over Hull, which dates back nearly 25 years to 1990. The south coast club are unbeaten in their five previous Premier League meetings, winning each of the last three.

The Dutchman has recruited star names such as Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao with the aim of re-establishing United as a Premier League force. However, the side's defensive balance has come under the spotlight, and they face a real test against reigning champions Manchester City, who scored 102 league goals in the 2013/14 season, including four in an emphatic win against United at the Etihad Stadium. The day's second game sees Aston Villa entertain Tottenham Hotspur. This fixture has been one-sided in recent years - Spurs have won their last five games against Villa in all competitions, scoring 15 unanswered goals. When the two sides met earlier in the season, the Baggies inflicted a heavy 4-0 defeat on the newly promoted Clarets, but since then Sean Dyche's side have found their feet in the Premier League and are now a different proposition. Stoke face a tricky trip to play Newcastle. The Potters have come away with three points on just one of their five Premier League visits to St James' Park, but they have won the last two games at home against the Magpies by the same scoreline: 1-0. West Ham host Manchester United in the last fixture of the day. The Red Devils have taken 34 points from their last 12 Premier League games against the Hammers and last lost in this fixture back in 2007. Last season, Manchester United won 2-1 courtesy of a wonder goal from current skipper Wayne Rooney.

Mark Chapman introduces highlights from the Premier League. All eyes are on Old Trafford as Manchester United face a huge match against Chelsea. Louis van Gaal's expensively assembled squad could not have had more of a contrasting start to the season to that enjoyed by Jose Mourinho's Chelsea. The Red Devils will be looking to shrug off what has been a terrible opening to the season by their exalted standards, but their struggling defence will have their work cut out containing a Blues team who have been scoring goals for fun. Elsewhere, struggling Burnley welcome Everton to Turf Moor to get points on the board, while Newcastle travel to play Tottenham. There is also a look back at Saturday's Premier League action, featuring Manchester City against West Ham and Sunderland against Arsenal.

Highlights of the day's three Premier League games, which see Tottenham host West Ham, Everton take on Leicester and Southampton play Liverpool. The latter match sees former Saints players Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren return to St Mary's for the first time since joining the Reds last year. Southampton have coped well without the trio, launching an unexpected challenge for European qualification. It has been an up-and-down campaign for Liverpool, who have struggled to replace Barcelona-bound Luis Suarez, although there have been more encouraging signs of late. The Reds' Merseyside rivals Everton host Leicester City at Goodison Park, eager to make up lost ground following inconsistent league form. And there's a London derby at White Hart Lane, where Tottenham take on West Ham.
