Jim recovers in hospital where he has to suffer the doubts of his colleagues and a step son who is accusing him of battering Marie. When the truth comes out Jim realises that he can't stay married to his abusive alcoholic wife. He knows that he will have to be cruel to be kind but can Jim be convinced that making an official complaint against her is the best way she will receive help?
