A young widow hires Barnaby to investigate the "accidental" death of her husband of only four weeks. While investigating the case another young man who was once a suitor to the same woman winds up dead under mysterious circumstances, leaving Barnaby to believe neither death was accidental.

The man who is a conman, has moved on to his next mark but one of his former victims finds him and threatens to reveal all to his latest mark so he kills her.
