Nội dung phim xoay quanh một nhóm học sinh trung học sau khi tốt nghiệp đã dành trọn đêm cuối cùng để vui chơi cùng bạn bè trước khi thi đại học. Từ mục đích ban đầu, họ bị cuốn vào một cuộc phiêu lưu bất ngờ... Bộ phim với bối cảnh, phong cách, âm nhạc của đầu thập niên 60 tại Mỹ. American Graffiti còn là một trong những bộ phim tiên phong cho dòng phim “tuổi mới lớn” (Coming-of-age). Một trong những vai chính của phim là Ron Howard - người sau này trở thành một đạo diễn nổi tiếng, từng đoạt giải Oscar (với phim A Beautiful Mind). American Graffiti đã giúp George Lucas trở thành một trong những “hạt giống” đạo diễn tiềm năng của điện ảnh Mỹ lúc bấy giờ, như Steven Spielberg và Francis Ford Coppola... trước khi cho ra đời Star Wars huyền thoại.
