Mặc dù còn có nhiều tranh cãi nhưng nhìn chung What Maisie Knew được giới phê bình đánh giá cao. Hơn một thế kỷ sau, cuốn tiểu thuyết này mới được chuyển thể lên màn ảnh rộng qua bộ phim cùng tên của bộ đôi đạo diễn Scott McGehee và David Siegel.
