When James and Michelle travel to Yellowknife to investigate the dead man's work for the provincial legislature, hey begin to unravel a complicated web of political wheeling and dealing. Teevee pushes Michelle to accept the idea of an aboriginal police force, with former RCMP member Marjorie Sebastian supporting him and his former cellmate Matthew Fowler as a test case for community rehabilitation. But when a tourist is killed, suspicion falls on Matthew and on a Lynx River resident who may have had a longstanding grudge against the victim.
