Overview
While the Detective Boys excitedly discuss soccer on the way home from school, Conan is thinking about a different news story. Missing professional shogi player Nishikido, who was suspected of matching fixing, was murdered and found dead. At the crime scene was a shogi board with one leg cut off. The kids are discussing the origin of the term "yaocho" (match fixing) featured in the article Conan was reading when Haneda Shukichi shows up. Shukichi explains that he played against Nishikido and describes his impression of the man. The Detective Boys notice Shukichi is neatly dressed and believe he's going on a date with his girlfriend Yumi, but Shukichi denies it, saying he's meeting someone important instead, and leaves.
